Luc Bernay

Luc Bernay is a French realist painter and co-founder of the American Society of Marine Artists. He studied art in Paris, London, and New Jersey (USA), and continues to pursue figure drawing at the Sociedade de Belas Artes in Lisbon.

His 2017 journey to Antarctica had a profound impact on his artistic vision, inspiring a sensitive exploration of space and light, which are central themes in his work. Much like the 19th-century Impressionists, Luc Bernay favors plein air painting, working directly on site to capture the full richness of the natural color spectrum.

By freeing himself from photographic or digital references, he is able to express with great subtlety the nuanced shifts in hue and value that only direct observation can reveal.

Luc Bernay regularly exhibits in France, the United States, and Portugal.
